Review: Frostbite

Frostbite
Richelle Mead
Vampire Academy #2

Rose loves Dimitri, Dimitri might love Tasha, and Mason would die to be with Rose...

It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy’s crawling with Guardians—including Rose’s hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn’t bad enough, Rose’s tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason’s got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks... This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price...

What I Liked:
~ Rose did a lot of growing in this one. Sure she still had her impulsive moments, but she also started acting more like an adult. For example, Her telling Dimitri that she just wanted him to be happy or when she decided her feelings for Mason and thought is best to just go tell him. She also realized that killing a Strigoi wasn't as glorious as she thought.
~ Lissa didn't exactly have as big a part in this book as the first, but I'm glad she has Christian and found some else like her.
~ Adrian, the new guy. You learn a bit about him in this book and I am intrigued. I'm not saying I like him yet but it could happen.
~ Rose & Dimitri. They are just soooo gahhhh... I don't know the right word but they are good. Very good. Though Adrian might change that. We will see what happens.

What I Didn't Like:
Mason's death. I feel like the author was just trying to find an easy was to get rid of him. It seemed a little too convenient that Mason was kind of in Rose's way, and then he just dies. Don't get me wrong though, Rose was very broken up about it at the time, but Dimitri fixed that pretty fast.

Cover:
~ Who are those people? I mean, It's a nice cover and all, but I just couldn't figure out what characters in the book they were supposed to be.

In All:
~ Frostbite was a great sequel to Vampire Academy. I really enjoyed this book, even more so than the first. If you have read the first book then I definitely recommend you picking up this one.

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think?
