Monthly Recap: June 2013

I didn't have to go to school at all this month, so I was so very excited about all the reading time I would have. What did I do? Read? No. For some reason I was always distracted by something else. I guess when I was in school I read when I was done with my work or something, but at home my work is never done. People always make huge lists of things they want to do over the summer but only about 10% of them actually follow through with it. I still read a good amount of books this month, but not nearly as many as I wanted to. One thing I am happy with is how much I blogged. I think I kept up a pretty nice schedule.

Books Read:
  1. Red Glove (Curse Workers #2) - Holly Black
  2. The Pledge (The Pledge #1) - Kimberly Derting
  3. If I Should Die (Revenants #3) - Amy Plum
  4. Fever (Chemical Gardens #2) - Lauren DeStefano
  5. Sever (Chemical Gardens #3) - Lauren DeStefano
  6. Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely #1) - Melissa Marr
  7. Reboot (Reboot #1) - Amy Tintera
  8. Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy #1) - Kiersten White
  9. The Eternity Cure (Blood of Eden #2) - Julie Kagawa
  10. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist - Rachel Cohn & David Levithan
  11. The Evolution of Mara Dyer (Mara Dyer #2) - Michelle Hodkin
  12. Black Heart (Curse Workers #3) - Holly Black

Even as Allie faces shocking revelations and heartbreak like she’s never known, a new strain of the Red Lung virus that decimated humanity is rising to threaten human and vampire alike.

Quote Unquote: Sever

Quote Unquote is a series of posts of my favorite quotes from certain books. Today I am doing Sever by Lauren DeStefano. This is the last book in the Chemical Garden trilogy. I really liked this book and I thought it had some very quote-able lines.

~“I never wanted to live forever," she says. "I just wanted enough time.”

~“We'll squeeze every second that we can from our lives, because we're young, and we have plenty of years to grow. We'll grow until we're braver. We'll grow until our bones ache and our skin wrinkles and our hair goes white, and until our hearts decide, at last, that it's time to stop.”

~“It isn’t a perfect place. There are no perfect places. But nobody cares about perfection when there are sand castles to build and kites to chase, children that are being born, old hearts that are giving in.”

In the future, humans live in citylike spaceships orbiting far above Earth's toxic atmosphere. No one knows when, or even if, the long-abandoned planet will be habitable again. But faced with dwindling resources and a growing populace, government leaders know they must reclaim their homeland...before it's too late.
Now, one hundred juvenile delinquents are being sent on a high-stakes mission to recolonize Earth. After a brutal crash landing, the teens arrive on a savagely beautiful planet they've only seen from space. Confronting the dangers of this rugged new world, they struggle to form a tentative community. But they're haunted by their past and uncertain about the future. To survive, they must learn to trust-and even love-again.

Review: Reboot

Reboot
Reboot #1
Amy Tintera

Five years ago, Wren Connolly was shot three times in the chest. After 178 minutes she came back as a Reboot: stronger, faster, able to heal, and less emotional. The longer Reboots are dead, the less human they are when they return. Wren 178 is the deadliest Reboot in the Republic of Texas. Now seventeen years old, she serves as a soldier for HARC (Human Advancement and Repopulation Corporation).

Wren’s favorite part of the job is training new Reboots, but her latest newbie is the worst she’s ever seen. As a 22, Callum Reyes is practically human. His reflexes are too slow, he’s always asking questions, and his ever-present smile is freaking her out. Yet there’s something about him she can’t ignore. When Callum refuses to follow an order, Wren is given one last chance to get him in line—or she’ll have to eliminate him. Wren has never disobeyed before and knows if she does, she’ll be eliminated, too. But she has also never felt as alive as she does around Callum.

The perfect soldier is done taking orders.

Stacking the Shelves: Playlists and Kiss Lists

Stacking The Shelves is a weekly meme hosted by Tynga's Reviews. It's a great way to show other people the books that you've bought or received for the past week!

I went on vacation last week and on our drive home we saw this book store with a huge "Clearance Sale" sign. So of course I had to go. The store consisted of about 50% Christian books and 25% Southern Living Holiday Recipe books. But there were a few other books there and they were on a great sale. I got all of these books for less than three dollars each and two of them are hardback. Total it was around $12. I love books, but I love good books on sale even more. :)
