First Lines #2: Dash & Lily's Book of Dares & Clockwork Angel

The first line or couple of lines set a tone for a book. They can pull you in or make you put the book down. This a series of posts with first lines that got me hooked.

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares
Rachel Cohn & David Levithan

"Imagine this:
You're in your favorite bookstore, scanning the shelves. You get to the section where a favorite authors's book reside, and there, nestled in comfortably between the incredibly familiar spines, sits a red notebook.
What do you do?
The choice I think is obvious:
You take down the notebook and open it.
And then you do whatever it tells you to do."
Clockwork Angel
Cassandra Clare
"The demon exploded in a shower of ichor and guts. William Herondale jerked back the dagger he was holding, but it was too late. The vicious acid of the demon's blood had already begun to eat away at the shining blade. He swore and tossed the weapon aside; it landed in a filthy puddle and commenced smoldering like a doused match. The demon itself, of course, had vanished-dispatched back to whatever hellish world it had come from, though not without leaving a mess behind."
