January Black: Author Interview & Giveaway

Tour Schedule
January Black
Wendy S Russo
Sixteen-year-old genius Matty Ducayn has never fit in on The Hill, an ordered place seriously lacking a sense of humor. After his school’s headmaster expels him for a small act of mischief, Matty’s future looks grim until King Hadrian comes to his rescue with a challenge: answer a question for a master’s diploma. More than a second chance, this means freedom. Masters can choose where they work, a rarity among Regents, and the question is simple. What was January Black? It’s a ship. Everyone knows that. Hadrian rejects that answer, though, and Matty becomes compelled by curiosity and pride to solve the puzzle. When his search for an answer turns up long-buried state secrets, Matty’s journey becomes a collision course with a deadly royal decree. He's been set up to fail, which forces him to choose. Run for his life with the challenge lost...or call the king’s bluff.

 Interview with Wendy Russo

1.Hello! Can you tell us a bit about yourself?
I'm writer in wife/mom clothing. I enjoy books, listening to music, and gardening, which I'm not very good at. I was raised in Wyoming, and my parents still live there. I have a brother, a nephew, and four nieces. My son just turned five in January, and he may well be smarter than me.

2. Describe yourself in three words.
Quiet. Searching. Complicated.

3.Early bird or Night owl?
Oh, that's hard. I don't like mornings, but I can't stay up late anymore either! I'd have to say that I'm an early bird, but only out of necessity.

4.Who is you favorite book character of all time?
(Groan) Hardest question ever! If I have to pick one, I'll say Jason Bourne.

5.Dogs or Cats?
Dogs. Although my favorite of all my pets was a cat.

6.Are you a fan of a "Happily Ever After" in books?
I am a fan of satisfying resolutions to stories. Happily Ever After and Happily for Now pulls that off nicely, so yes. However, if a tragic ending is done well, I love those too.

7.Gum or Breath Mints?
Breath mints. Gum doesn't get along with my TMJ. Also, I have dreams about gum getting stuck in my teeth. It's happened so frequently that I now know I'm dreaming when it happens and I can wake myself up if I want to. While I'm awake, I avoid gum.

8.What is your favorite song of the moment?
Hmm...Heartbeat Slowing Down, by All American Rejects

9.Pizza or Pasta?
Pasta. Spaghetti and meatballs.

10.Who or what inspired you to be an author?
I can remember writing stories since the sixth grade, so it was probably the county's Young Author's contest that got me started.
