Review: Under the Never Sky

Under the Never Sky
Under the Never Sky #1
Veronica Rossi

Aria has lived her whole life in the protected dome of Reverie. Her entire world confined to its spaces, she's never thought to dream of what lies beyond its doors. So when her mother goes missing, Aria knows her chances of surviving in the outer wasteland long enough to find her are slim.

Then Aria meets an outsider named Perry. He's searching for someone too. He's also wild - a savage - but might be her best hope at staying alive.

If they can survive, they are each other's best hope for finding answers.

Rating: 3.5/5

Quotes:
“She looked up. “A world of nevers under a never sky.”
She fit in well then, he thought. A girl who never shut up.”

“Fall off your own roof.”

“In the afternoon, they stopped to eat on a rocky outcrop. Perry brushed a kiss on her cheek while she was chewing, and she learned that it was the loveliest thing to be kissed for no reason, even while chewing food. It brightened the woods, and the never sky, and everything.”

My Thoughts:
This book has a lot of great reviews, and I can see why, but for some reason I just didn't love this. With some books, when I finish, I can tell right away what it is I did or did not like about it, but with this one I just can't tell. When I give it a 3.5 it feels like the right rating, but I can't put into words why.

I really liked all of the characters in this book, except Vale. Aria was a strong main character, and didn't fall all over everything. Perry was strong too, and pretty darn awesome. Now, myself, I prefer Roar. But I like how in this book he isn't presented as a love interest. He's just that best friend everybody would want. I really liked the world too. Its an original idea and it was presented really well.

The way I am presenting this makes it seem like I loved this book. But, I think the main thing was that while I thought the bones of this story were really good, I found myself skimming a lot. I would still recommend this book. My short attention span messed this book up for me but I still think it was worth reading.

  2. I'm glad you still liked bits of this. I'm one of the ones who loves the book. I'm sure you already know, but there is a novella for Roar! I haven't read it yet but I really need to. I hope you'll give the sequel a chance too. :)

  3. Roar is my favorite character as well. I read this for a book club and it seemed like I was the only person who wasn't in love with it. I hope you like the sequel better!
